Ecosemiotics: The Nature of Reality
2024. Inkjet prints on wood panels
Ecosemiotics studies ecological systems and phenomena and how their significance is constructed by signs and symbols in human culture.
Signs, specifically photographs, are inextricably linked to contemporary society. Having instant access to photographs and cameras on our smartphones has shifted “reality” away from the physical world and into the virtual.
Ecosemiotics: The Nature of Reality is a collection of iPhone, digital, and analog photographs that juxtapose the built and natural world to reveal uncanny and unexpected similarities. This project provides a critical perspective of the fragmentation between man and nature while also showing how identifying interconnectedness can repair the bonds that disconnect us.
